Try Stopping Diwon Premieres on The DJ Booth

The moment has arrived! ‘Try Stopping’, the first single off Diwon’s forthcoming album, “New Game” came out today. The single premiered on The DJ Booth and could be downloaded from iTunes, amazon, bandcamp or Diwon’s own soundcloud.

Diwon is a global artist. He’s known to NewYork audiences for his mix of Middle Eastern samples and Baltimore club beats. He is renowned worldwide for his remixes of pop acts like Lana Del Rey. On the inside, Diwon has the heart of a true-school hip-hop head. “Try Stopping”, which hits streets today, is the first single to be released from his forthcoming album, “New Game.” which will be released this August 6th. Be on the look out for new singles each month leading up to the full record.

The beats on New Game are the classic Diwon mix of cerebral and party-rocking, with hard-hitting hip hop drums melting into psychedelic strings, synths and guitar. It’s the producer as auteur. Like Kanye or Godard, every track takes you through the emotional space of the artist.

On the single “Try Stopping,” Nissim kicks a mean double time flow over trippy synths sounding like a Roc-A-Fella joint on acid, and Open Mike Eagle’s smooth nasal tone on the track is a statement in itself. The rapping on “Try Stopping” is intelligent but accessible, lyrical without pretension. People talk about hip-hop going “post-regional,” but Diwon’s beats are post-national. This is the music you wish you heard on airplanes.

Not every emcee could hold it down so hard when flipped over trap/house party music, some come off corny and few come off comfy. Tyga seems comfortable over any sort of track, check Diwon’s party edit to hear how.

Alt Sounds says Dreams in Static got more soul than the Rolling Stones

Great write up in AltSounds today. Here it is:

So who doesn’t love new music? No one raised theirhands? GOOD, because Dreams In Static has released their music video for their first single ‘You’re On Your Own’ off of their upcoming album Part Of The Machine by partnering with the Wall Street Journal. No, this isn’t a Segway into an article about numbers, calm down.

This debut music video, directed by award winning Jonty Fine, Chief Director of Bancs Media, can be viewed on The WallStreet Journal website

Dreams in Static is a project formed by LA based hip-hop producer Diwon and New York City producer and songwriter Dugans. Straight off of their highly anticipated album, the two partners hired on Akie Bermiss to add on some beautiful vocals into the already dreamy Dreams In Static grooves. “If hip-hop is dead to the underground and rock is dead to the mainstream, Dream sin Static resurrects the two and blends their elements into one sonic sonnet,” explains Diwon. It’s like John Mayer meets The Rolling Stones with more soul; yes it’s possible. Bringing in sexy guitar tones and soul singing that have left the world of quality music, these three partners in crime resurrect the passionate and dynamic sound to popular music. Nice one dudes…I mean sirs.

Crash N Burn

barneeeePassion of the Weiss just featured our homie Barney Bone’s single “Crash n Burn” on their home page. Look out for the full EP dropping this month and check out his features on Diwon’s “New Game” album on iTunes now. Now for their feature – “On Twitter, rapper Barney Bones lists his location as ‘Boneyard Canyon.’ This might be the new slang for South Central (where he resides) or it might be a reference to Hanna-Barbera cartoon characters who drive cars rolling on stones with their feet.
This is all I know about Barney Bones, save for the confidence he displays on his first single, “Crash N Burn.” A cautionary song, it deals with the often acknowledged but seemingly unavoidable perils of the music industry. It’s anti-major label, anti-materialism, anti-facade. Bones, not unlike the Cortez and khaki rocking Kendrick, knows the fast ride in foreign whips will end in twisted metal, carnage, and flames.

Lines such as, “Take another pill and sip some more of the potion / Girls leaned out, spilling they devotion,” reveal both careful construction and serious potential. In terms of delivery, he’s a more than competent, capable of shifting cadences and experimenting with inflection. His predilection for Shlohmo and FlyLo speak to the inspiration for the production. “Crash N Burn” is built with the blocks formed and founded by the L.A. beat scene. It opens with a laser-like shutter. Then come the abundance of skittering hi-hats and the dust-ruffling bass. Towards the end of the track there’s frenetic, cacophonous rise with no drop. Bones might be experimenting. Or maybe it’s his final commentary on the false promises of the come up.
It’s reverent yet forward-thinking and rap always needs more of that. For now, Bones is a talented rapper with a pocket of promise. He might not be getting magazine covers yet, but he makes things count.”

Dreams in Static – “You’re On Your Own” (MUSIC VIDEO TEASER)

Dreams in Static “You’re On Your Own” is the first single from their upcoming album featuring Akie Bermiss. Dreams in Static conjures up the aesthetics of Pulp Fiction & Curtis Mayfield. The upcoming album produced by Los Angeles based hip hop producer Diwon and multifaceted guitarist/composer, Dugans will feature Akie Bermiss throughout. Bringing his own signature sound — with hints of Smokey Robinson and TV on the Radio – Akie Bermiss’ timeless dream-like voice breathes life and narratives into the Dreams in Static grooves.

** Be on the look out for the full music video directed by Bancs Media’s own Jonty Fine accompanied by the big Indaba Music remix contest later this month and keep up with Dreams in Static, here.

Mikey Pauker – “Top of the World”

The music video for Mikey Pauker’s “Top of the World” is bittersweet but entirely joyful, a beautifully shot celebration of life, love and light set in the glory of the California coast. It’s a fitting reflection of the song, which explores the idea that all living creatures are connected to spirit. “Top of the World” is featured on Pauker’s album Extraordinary Love, produced by Diwon, which encourages listeners to connect with their inner light through a blend of folk, electronica, pop, hip-hop, and reggae.

Check out the premiere at Zimbio, here and the full music video, here.

A$AP ROCKY, Kosha Dillz and Matisyahu Freestyle (video)

Kosha Dillz is not your average Emcee. He’s awkward. He’s different. He’s been on Yo Gabba Gabba!, toured with Wu Tang, raps at bar mitzvahs, and even been in the BET Hip Hop Awards Cypher with Rza.

Speaking of cyphers, no one would ever think that A$AP ROCKY and Kosha Dillz would connect, but Matisyahu lays down a fresh beatbox backstage “somewhere in France” to make some magic happen. This is actually the Eurockeenes Festival, where legend has it that Kosha DiIllz took 5 trains to get there all the way from Cologne Germany that day. Other acts who played there include, Joey BadAss, Action Bronson, and Mykki Blanco amongst others.

Kosha Dillz’ upcoming album, Awkward in a Good Way, is scheduled to release Nov 5th on Murs’ label, #MURS316, and it features Murs along with Gangsta Boo of Three 6 Mafia.
* Pre-order the album on iTunes.

Downfall your Doma with “Free My Love”

Celebrate the historic “Downfall of Doma” with Bonhom’s “Free My Love” single and music video! The release date honors the 44th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots coinciding with Gay Pride months worldwide.

Like the stand gay rights activists took at Stonewall, this single advocates for freedom to love for all people. “Won’t you free my love?” vocalist James Coleman sultrily sings as the music video takes your breath away just like falling in love. The video features stunning time lapse shots of the natural world by Blake Ciulla. Majestic mountains, lush forests, and sensual sunsets capture the mystery and passion that is love. Set to Diwon’s trance-like, transcendent big beats, this orchestrated pop song is a stirring anthem for love for all.

“Free My Love” is the next in a series of singles from Bonhom’s forthcoming EP, titled #BNHM. Their past two singles, “Live for Now” and “NYE,” were remixed by Dubstep duo Neutron, composed of Hollywood producers Laze & Royal, responsible for some of the hottest songs by Tyga, The Game, Chris Brown, Ke$ha, and more.

Bonhom “Live for Now” Music Video Out Now!

Bonhom’s “Live for Now” is the first single off the forthcoming Top of the World EP, set to be released in early 2013. The video premiered on Spinner this weekend and with its release, Bonhom defines the style of Dream-Pop. From the danceable beat to the dreamy vocals, it combines a classic pop sound infused with a modern 2013-style production. The song is about living in the moment, letting go of the past, and embracing the future. The accompanying video, directed by Matthew Stubstad, interacts with everyday people as they determine their most essential values to guide their lives – like family, love, and culture – and inspires us all to do the same. These messages of meaning are sent up to the heavens in an epic cinematic flourish of your dreams. The close camera angles bring the viewer on an emotional journey to experience the present in its fullest power.

Their songs compel listeners to live in the moment, let go of the past, and embrace the future. With a fantastic fusion of their musical talents, Coleman and Diwon produce the songs of which dreams are made of.

Be sure to download the single as well as the remix by Neutron, comprised of producers Laze and Royal, are the team behind some of the hottest hits from Tyga, the Game, Chris Brown, Ke$ha and more.

BONHOM’S “NYE” REMIXES

Just in time to ring in the New Year, Bonhom releases two new remixes of their single, “NYE”. The original slowly builds from a bass-driven atmospheric refrain into a party rock anthem, while the remixes infuse the song with the energy of dubstep, nu disco and house.

The first remix, created by Plant Music founder All Dom Wrong, brings an ethereal vibe with his fresh hybrid of techno and house.  With the second mix, Producer/DJ duo Neutron delivers an in-your-face, headbanging dubstep track.  Neutron, comprised of producers Laze and Royal, are the team behind some of the hottest hits from Tyga, the Game, Chris Brown, Ke$ha and more.

“NYE” was produced by Bonhom, a new pop project co-created by two musical masterminds: singer-songwriter/producer, James Coleman and DJ/producer/songwriter, Diwon. Together, they produce their own unique brand of epic dreamlike pop. As we count down to New Year’s Eve, we will undoubtedly sing along as Coleman belts out his affirmations: “We’re Traveling Our Destiny, This Is Our Message Feed: It Feels Like New Years Eve, And We’re Ready For Anything”.
